MISSION STATEMENT:
Zonta International is a leading
global organization of professionals empowering women worldwide
through service and advocacy.
VISION:
Zonta International envisions a world
in which women's rights are recognized
as human rights and every woman
is able to achieve her full potential.
In such a world, women have access to
all resources and are represented
in decision making positions
on an equal basis with men.
In such a world, no woman lives
in fear of violence.
ZONTA CODE
To work for the advancement of understanding, good will and peace
through a world fellowship of executive women in business
and the professions united in the Zonta ideal of service.
To honor my work and consider it an opportunity for service.
OUR HISTORY
Zonta Club of Lockport was organized as an outgrowth of
a business women's club at the Lockport YWCA.
Early in the Fall of 1920, they became the 11th charter club
of the Zonta Clubs of America (now Zonta International).
Founded on the selective classification plan,
the Zonta Club of Lockport became a reality with
33 active members on November 5, 1920.
Joining efforts with other Zonta Clubs,
we strongly assist in the world-wide service programs.
On-going is the Amelia Earhart Fellowship for graduate study in Aviation Science.
Zonta Club of Lockport has also contributed to
Zonta International Domestic Violence Program,
Zonta International Strategies To End Violence Against Women (ZISVAW),
and their International Service programs.
A major focus of the Zonta Club of Lockport is Scholarships to women.
These include a one-year scholarship for Liberal Arts study,
[2] two-year scholarships for attendance at Niagara County Community College,
a one year scholarship to a Niagara County student
who has been as active participant in the 4-H program
and a two-year scholarship to a mature woman to return to college study.
Other local community projects have included service related to
women, family, education and health.
In addition to Zonta activities, each Zontian has her own special community interests.
Be it literacy, church, hospital, library, Kenan Center, YWCA, senior citizens or others.
Each Zontian is committed to doing her part
to improve the quality of life in the community.
