Search Committee
On April 1st (April Fools' Day) of each year, the Zonta Club of Lockport
conducts a “Phantom Ball". This Phantom Ball event is done by
requesting funds and donations through a mailing.
Prior to this mailing, the Search Committee selects a worthy
community project as beneficiary of the Phantom Ball revenues.
The amount earned during this event varies from year to year.
Past amounts have ranged anywhere from $1,000 to $4,000.
The exact amount of the grant will not be known until the
conclusion of the event, usually around May 31st.
In some years, funds have been divided and shared among several recipients.
Initial requests should be in the form of a brief letter outlining
the project and its benefits, in a general manner, or by completing the
Request for Funds form. Requests which are in
excess of two pages will not be considered.
The application deadline is December 16, 2024
The project(s) that is/are selected must be from non-profit
community agencies, organizations, and individuals, which have a
demonstrable beneficial effect on the lives of area women and children.
They also must align in some manner with the program goals of
Zonta International as shown below:
-
Improve the legal, political, economic, education & professional status of women
-
Provide needed services at the local and/or global level
-
Promote justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms
-
Work for the advancement of understanding, good will and peace through a world fellowship of executives in business and the professions
The Search Committee reviews applications and selects recipient(s) and
then recommends the applicant(s) to the Zonta Board of Directors
and then club members. The club membership makes the final decision.
